Scrip PDF Print E-mail

Scrip is the number one easiest and cheapest fund raiser we do.

It is the only fund raising activity that is continuous throughout the school year and summer.

Here’s how it works:

The National Scrip Center has worked out a deal with merchants. In exchange for encouraging folks to shop at their place of business, the business will donate to non-profit organizations a percentage of the monies spent. Each business chooses what percentage they will donate. Our Scrip coordinator, Brenda Mallery, purchases scan cards or gift certificates from the National Scrip center at a price that reflects the profit.

or example, Papa Murphy’s has agreed to a 10% profit. If Brenda buys $100.00 of Scrip she pays (with APPLE funds) $90.00. Brenda then sells the purchased Scrip to us at the face value for us to use at the place of business like regular money.

Here’s the breakdown:

Value
$100.00
Purchase Price
$90.00
Selling Price $100.00
Profit $10.00
Extra Cost to Purchaser
$0

That’s the beauty. APPLE families have the opportunity to purchase Scrip for specific merchants with no extra cost. If I purchase $20.00 of Rosauers Scrip, when I take the Scrip shopping, it is the same as a $20.00 bill. We are raising funds for APPLE at zero extra costs to us! What could be easier and cheaper? The Shier family purchases $100.00 of Safeway Scrip and $10.00 of Rosauers Scrip every week. They pay $110.00 to purchase the Scrip. At the grocery stores, they receive $100.00 and $10.00 worth of goods. APPLE yields a profit of $11.00 per week or $572.00 per year because the Shier family buys groceries.
